Emulsifiers and the lipids of the skin barrier
In conventional creams, emulsifiers ensure a stable oil-water texture. However, many emulsifiers have disadvantages: they can be harmful to the skin and the environment, impair the effect of active ingredients or cause skin irritation and allergies.
In addition, emulsifiers not only bind water and oil, but also the skin's own lipids - both from the sebum and from the extracellular matrix of the stratum corneum. As the skin's outermost protective layer, the stratum corneum is exposed to environmental influences on a daily basis. It consists of completely keratinized cells (corneocytes), which are connected to each other by special lipids. Above this lies the hydrolipid film - a mixture of the skin's own lipids and sebum - which protects the skin from pollutants, bacteria and moisture loss.
When washing off, these valuable lipids are also removed by care products containing emulsifiers. This so-called “washout effect” weakens the skin barrier and makes the skin more susceptible to external influences.
The intelligent care formula for your skin barrier
The DMS (Derma Membrane Structure) formulation in Derma SR Creams works completely without emulsifiers, thus preventing their adverse effects. Instead, the oil-water mixture is homogenized under high pressure, which keeps the texture stable and ensures an even distribution of the lipid components. At the same time, the formulation provides the skin with essential barrier lipids in a skin-identical or skin-like form - for rapid absorption and resistant, optimally protected skin.
